IN LOVING MEMORY
SUZANNE ROUTLY
Suzanne Routly was a leader in the Calgary family bar community and she is truly missed by everyone that knew her.
I first worked alongside Suzanne at Turnbull Boyes in 1989 when she was being trained by the titan Julia Turnbull, KC to be the best in her legal support role. I was a young lawyer and she was a young legal assistant so we did lots of learning together. If you get Julia and Suzanne laughing at the same time, there is no louder combination of fun.
She went on to continue working with Julia Turnbull, KC until Suzanne moved to Dunphy Best Blocksom LLP to work for Patricia Blocksom, KC (and a number of other lawyers including Gord Sterchi, KC, Khatera Haidery, Julia Turnbull, KC (again) for approximately 15 years. Suzanne then came to work with me in July 2019 at WK Family Lawyers LLP and Jones Divorce and Family Law where we moved together in January 2024.
Suzanne was a force. She had strong opinions, a great sense of humor and she was wicked smart. She had her own remarkable organizational systems partially designed to ensure I could never find anything without her. She would never back down from an argument. She treated clients with respect and consideration while setting clear boundaries and protections for my practice. She was a competitive hard worker. Suzanne consistently role modelled professionalism mixed with good spirits to those she interacted with. She was calm no matter how many fires there were to be put out at any given time.
The Calgary family bar is grieving the loss of Suzanne. The tremendous show of support for us and affection for Suzanne has been truly overwhelming. This is very much appreciated by everyone at our firm. I am proud to have known her and have the privilege to now witness such appreciation for the true impact she had on so many colleagues she worked with and clients she worked for with over the years. What a tremendous career! Thank you Suzanne. Krysta Ostwald
